Germstar
https://www.germstaruk.com/

Alcohol gels are a first line of defence in the fight against germs. But traditional 'push button' gel dispensers have a flaw. You have to touch them – and 80& of infectious diseases are transmitted by hand. So even the dispenser becomes a hazard! Germstar's touchless hand sanitiser does just what it says, eliminating any chance of cross contamination. Just place a hand under the infra-red motion-activated dispenser to receive a measured dose of sanitising liquid rinse capable of killing 99.9% of Bacteria, viruses and fungus on contact. It works against H1N1, Norovirus, Gastroenteritis, E Coli, Salmonella, MRSA and just about every other germ that threatens the health of carers and clients. The solution is made of 100% natural emollients and it softens the hands with each use. It is not a gel – so no sticky residue, each solution sachet gives up to 1400 doses and we'll install the dispenser free of charge.

Ros Sanderson, Head of Inspection, Care Quality Commission

Ros trained as a nurse and midwife before becoming a registered provider of a care home in Scarborough. She was a provider for 17 years regulated under the Registered Homes Act 1984 and the National Care Standards Commission.

In 2004 Ros joined Commission for Social Care Inspection and worked for 3 years as an inspector before moving to the Regional Enforcement Team of CSCI covering the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber. In 2010, following the merging of the Healthcare Commission, the MHA Commission and CSCI to become the Care Quality Commission, Ros moved to a management role in the North East before taking up a national role in Registration. In 2014 Ros secured the Head of Inspection role covering the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber, known as North East and Coast area.

Ros promotes an open and accessible culture within the area and works in partnership across the Health and Social Care system. A key area of her role has been embedding the methodology that answers the five key questions about a service:

Is it safe, is it effective, is it caring, is it responsive, is it well led?

A key area of the role is making sure that CQC is always on the side of people using services and that where we need to take action to stamp out poor practice, we do this in a timely and proportionate way.

"Imagining your care; what could a care system designed for 21st century people look like?"
John Kennedy, Independent Social Care Consultant

John Kennedy joined the JRHT in 2001 after a 15-year spell managing care homes in East Yorkshire and delivering IT solutions to the sector. An Economics graduate from University of Manchester, John’s time at JRHT has seen him manage a mixed portfolio of care homes, retirement villages, domiciliary care and independent living schemes across Yorkshire and the North East.

As part of his wider role within JRF, John has managed programmes which aim to understand and tackle loneliness in neighbourhoods, a project looking at how York could become a ‘dementia-friendly city’.

Combining his working experience in care homes and a passion to reform the sector for the better, John began a JRF personal inquiry into care homes in summer 2013. Given frequent exposes scandal into abuse or mistreatment, John’s enquiry looked to provide an antidote and lasting change: to clearly spell out in a bold way what is needed for care homes to be good places to live and work. John wants to bring about an end to the ‘crisis-driven’ nature of the system, and hopes the evidence from his inquiry sets out a vision of how good care homes could become a common reality. The inquiry report was published in Oct 2014.

Outside of work, John is a Trustee of the Wilberforce Trust - a charity providing accommodation and services to adults with learning disabilities and a visual impairment. He is a governor at Joseph Rowntree School in York and a Director of the National Care Forum (NCF), the national organisation representing ‘not for profit’ providers of care services. John has recently been appointed as Chair of the European Foundations Initiatives on Dementia (EFID).

John’s expertise and personal commitment has seen him called upon to act a Commissioner on two occasions: to a review of health services in York and North Yorkshire in 2011, and again 2012 when he advised the York Fairness Commission – headed up by the Archbishop of York John Sentamu - on ways to increase fairness and reduce inequality in the city.

An update from the Inspectorate
Paul Chapman, Inspection Manager, Care Quality Commission

I worked in a range of roles in adult social care for nine years, becoming a registered manager of services for people with learning disabilities.

In 2002 I joined the National Care Standards Commission as an inspector working across Gloucestershire. In 2011 I moved into a management role overseeing an inspection team, in 2013 I was seconded to the methodology design team responsible for designing the new approach to inspections methodology. I returned to manage the South Gloucestershire adult social care inspection team in October 2014. As a team we have been responsible for checking services are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

A key area of the role is making sure that CQC is always on the side of people using services and that where we need to take action to stamp out poor practice, we do this in a timely and proportionate way.

Germstar
https://www.germstaruk.com/
